Round beads of 3mm, threaded in a continuous run along a fine internal link, make up the ball chain in its simplest form. No part of it sits flat, so each sphere catches light from a different angle as the chain moves and the surface flickers rather than shining evenly. Beads and cable alike are sterling silver 925.
Three millimetres is substantial for a bead chain. It keeps a line of its own bare at the throat and has the body to hang a heavier pendant. Seven lengths run from 40cm (16″) at the base of the neck through 45cm (18″), 50cm (20″), 55cm (22″), 60cm (24″) and 70cm to 80cm, which will wrap twice for a doubled strand.
Italian manufacture, in 925 silver. Bead chains carry more surface than a flat link, so tarnish shows sooner in the hollows between spheres; a silver cloth drawn along the strand lifts it back without much effort.
